Misfiled

Misfiled

A daily deduction game

  1. A secret rule decides which items belong in the file. Work out what it is.
  2. Tap a card to test it: filed follows the rule, misfiled breaks it. You get 6 tests.
  3. Then sit the exam: 4 new items, 2 minutes on the clock. All 4 right in time cracks the case.
  4. A new case opens every day at midnight. One go per day.

How to play

Every case has a secret filing rule. Your job is to work out what it is.

Example only: if the rule were "starts with B"

  1. Test. Tap any card. It is stamped filed if it follows the rule, or misfiled if it breaks it. You have 6 tests, shown as dots at the bottom.
  2. Deduce. What do the filed items share that the misfiled ones don't? The first obvious pattern is usually a trap. From Wednesday to Saturday the rule has two parts, so the pattern you spot may be only half of it.
  3. Sit the exam. You get 4 new items to mark filed or misfiled. Any mix is possible, from none filed to all four.
  4. Beat the clock. You have 2 minutes once the items turn over. When time runs out the papers are collected and the case is not cracked.
  5. Crack it. All 4 right cracks the case. The fewer tests you used, the better your grade and your place on the ledger.
